Author Feature: Glorious Raine
If you’ve been following The ToiBox of Words for at least a year, or more, you know that I’m currently on a Knauthentic journey through food and healing. Whenever I come across a story related to food, culture, and or healing, I just on it. I’m so excited to share these short works of fiction and journal prompts from one of my newest author friends.
Book Title: “Food is Love” Summary on back cover: Come to the table. Stay for the stories. From the heart of LYLT Expressions comes a deliciously heartfelt duo of short stories that celebrate the power of Family, Friendship, and food as a force for transformation. These stories invite readers into moments where misunderstandings soften, hearts open, and connection blooms—one bite, one laugh, one story at a time. Infused with warmth, creativity, and soulful elegance, this collection reminds us that nourishment isn’t just what’s on the plate — it’s what we offer each other through presence, compassion, and shared experience. Come hungry for meaning. Leave full of love.
“The Recipe” When the Lost is Found and the Truth Comes to Light “The Recipe” is a heartfelt short story about Love, family, friendships, relationships, and food. It is the captivating story of two young women who are left to mend the severed bond both of their mothers left behind. Food is love and binds people together when it is made from the heart and shared with loved ones. But when that bond is broken by someone close to all parties involved, can the bond be repaired or are the relationships severed for good? What happens when that which was once lost is suddenly found in the most unlikely of places and the truth finally comes to light? Indulge in “The Recipe” to find out.
“The Dinner Party” is a delightful mini story about the tension between two people who find themselves seated next to each other at a dinner party, each wishing they could be seated anywhere else. It is a story that highlights how even the most unlikely pairings can find tolerance, common ground and maybe even friendship when tradition, food, and a little grace are involved.
These stories don’t just speak—they listen. Woven into this duo of heartfelt tales are journal prompts that invite you to linger, reflect, and connect. As you journey through moments of family, friendship, and food, you’ll be gently guided to explore your own memories, relationships, and revelations

Fiction Excerpts:
Since rom-coms are far and few between for me, I figure I’d share the only one I’ve published so far. I’ve grown so much as a writer since this book, so this is a nice look-back of how far I’ve come. At about 300 words a post, this should take a while. Below are some affiliates links to the book in case you decide you like and don’t want to wait each week for an update.

It’s Like The Full Moon part 14
Chapter 3: Yellow Roses continued
“I’m so sorry I’m late. I know that’s not like me, but I had such a problem at the florist,” Virgil tried to explain quickly as he rushed in and charged straight over to Rebecca to embrace her in his arms. “The man kept going on and on about how yellow roses were perfect for sending off a lover. Finally, I got tired of arguing with him for the pink ones and took the yellow ones instead. Then I rushed straight over.” Virgil handed off the flowers and plumped down into a chair in the corner to catch his breath.
As everyone stared at Virgil’s uncharacteristic frenzy, TiTi was ready to get the ball rolling. “Well, that’s quite a story. I can see that you’ve made yourself comfortable, but we have to go. Lisa and Becca need to catch their charter. Even a private plane won’t wait forever when someone else is paying for it.” TiTi clapped her hands together, causing her pooch to rouse in her arms along with everyone else in the room.
Virgil jumped up out of his seat and grabbed some of the luggage that was sitting on the floor. Teddy grabbed the remaining bags and everyone exited the apartment. As Rebecca closed and locked her door, TiTi Lucy called out, “Everyone follow me. We’re going in my new SUV.”
Teddy and Lisa both chuckled. Teddy asked, “TiTi, when did you get an SUV?”
“I got it last year when some hot rod hit my Caddy on the interstate,” she hollered back as they all continued to descend the narrow stairwell of Rebecca’s building.
“That’s right,” said Teddy. “I remember when you were in that accident. I guess you got a pretty good payoff from it, huh?” At this point, they’d finally reached the lobby floor and where heading to the parking lot to load into the car.
“I tell you it was the grace of God,” she said in an almost whisper. “We all know that I’m not the best driver, but that guy was totally drunk when he hit me. It was a miracle I wasn’t hurt. I ended up getting a nice settlement and a new car. I even took some driving lessons so I wouldn’t wreck Shelli the first week I had her … That’s my car’s name. Isn’t she pretty?” They all shook their heads and stared at her new custom, luxury SUV with all its sparkle.
Thank you for making it this far down the virtual page. Kudos to you! I’d love to know what you thought of this post in the comments below. Stay safe and be blessed.
